Motivated to Move. How have I kept off the 86 pounds I lost two years ago?  Walking.  I got out on a three mile walk almost every day.  I have to motivate myself to get off my butt and get out walking.  When I feel tired or lethargic I try and motivate myself to move.  Visit my blog for more information http://moyer777.wordpress.com

FOOD FOR THOUGHT

This week we talk about the new waffle on Podcast with my friend from England Meds.  http://waffleon.podbean.com/ visit the waffle on website soon.  He explained what a Hedgerow was.  THANK YOU MEDS!

I was invited by Robby to come to the Presbyterian Church in Hoquiam.

We played Ouija board and contacted Steve, a guy who died in a motor boat accident.  I’m not sure if we really did, but we were kids goofing around with stuff that we didn’t understand to well.

It predicted when I would die- the very month that I gave my heart to God.  September 1985.  ??? Say what?  Was this accurate?  To strange!

I believe that we are all wired to be spiritual.  It really depends on what we hook up to inside of us.  I use the example of the power supply in a computer.  What do you plug into?   I plugged into rock and roll and dark stuff.  I didn’t know what I was messing with.

Sometimes I plug things into my life that aren’t good for me.

STAR WARS– the Fight between GOOD AND EVIL!
masterreplica_darthvaderhelmet

Evil and dark things tend to use us up, light and good things tend to energize us.

I believe God created people to do good things and help others out, not the opposite.

Pastor takes me aside and asks me to lead the youth group.  I didn’t know God from a hole in the ground.  Gee whiz!  I said yes to the $25 a month they were going to pay me.

I accepted, but had a hard time helping people because I didn’t know how to help people spiritually.

There are people everywhere that just go through the motions of religion, and they just aren’t as committed as others.  There is a difference between religion and relationship.

1.        If you’re going to be used, do it for something that matters.

2.       Many times we’re asked to do things so we can be developed or gain experience in life.

Check list: Will this help or hurt people around me?  Am I being selfish or selfless?  Will I grow as a human being?  Is this healthy for me down the road?

I believe we were made to live for God.  He made us and knows what is best for us.

I want to see people celebrated, not just tolerated.

Next week—  Green fog and electric guitars!

Song that I wrote called – You’re the one.  I wrote this a couple of months ago.

You’re the one
by Rick Moyer

Looking back through time, I see some things that held me back
but as they say you can’t go back and change things.
All you do is hold on to tomorrow don’t you
and pray the chains fall off that bind you

Set me free
from the chains that bind me
Set me free
from the ropes that tie me
Set me free
from the things that blind me
set me free
It doesn’t work to just ignore my demons
that keep me down inside my dungeon
Bread and water just  don’t satisfy my soul no more
I want to taste the freshness of a full set garden
Set me free
from the chains that bind me
Set me free
from the ropes that tie me
Set me free
from the things blind me
Set me free

So I fall upon the one that takes the sting of death away
Call upon his name one more time
Breaking through the crusty surface down into my heart
Letting out my inner feelings

Set me free
from the chains that bind me
Set me free
from the ropes that tie me
Set me free
from the things blind me
Set me free

You’re the one that sets me free (repeat several times)
Oh you’re the one that sets me free.

WORDS OF WISDOM

Romans 10

1Brothers, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for the Israelites is that they may be saved. 2For I can testify about them that they are zealous for God, but their zeal is not based on knowledge. 3Since they did not know the righteousness that comes from God and sought to establish their own, they did not submit to God’s righteousness. 4Christ is the end of the law so that there may be righteousness for everyone who believes.

I get something interesting from this-I can’t make my own rules on how to get right with God, I can crave spiritual things, but sometimes that isn’t enough.. I need to find God, and let him be the cure for my craving.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT!
Yeah, this week we are continuing on in the story of how I came into my faith.

My babysitter’s husband used to take me to Payless House of Values and we would buy 45  hit singles on vinyl.  The “b” side always had a lesser known song by the band or artist.  I used to do radio shows with  a mic and cassette.  I remember getting my first cassette tape recorder, the little mono ones that had a mic built into them.

recorder

Montgomery Wards.   Whoa!,  it was cool.

45

I wanted to be a DJ- I actually did, for ten years I spun the discs!

We lived in the country, and we didn’t have cable tv.   We had
Black and white TV with rabbit ears!

blackandwhitetv
The day I stepped out of Dorothy’s house-we got a color tv.. and wow, the whole world changed!

With tv cable comes good and bad…
I was skimming through the channels- what’s with that?  Why do men love the remote control so much?

I ran across a show on the Christian channel.  You know, with eyelash lady and mustache man.

They were doing a show on backwards masking.  NO WAY!  NO WAY!  So I ran upstairs and did it.

I had a sound design all in one stereo system with about 16 speakers set up on it.  Maxing it out of course.

stereo

My mom used to tell me that I didn’t need to have a rock concert in my room.  But hey, of course I did.
I decorated my room with album covers- I wore a denim vest, a KISW SEATTLES BEST ROCK SHIRT and I was into it!

kisw

So I pull out the album. Led Zeppelin- the song Stairway to Heaven.

zep_2
I don’t think it was intentional, but it freaked me out enough to think, that maybe there was more going on behind the scenes in this life.

I do an experiment by turning the vocals backwards, I even say the words and make them go backwards.

Take a listen to what I heard!  http://www.takehimwithyou.com/podcast/021509ruinedmyrecord.mp3

I WAS SEARCHING FOR ANSWERS.  I knew there was something more to life than just my music.  There just had to be!

I believe that every human being was created with an intrinsic desire to be spiritual and make a difference in the world.

We don’t need Superheroes, we need people that will walk in truth, integrity and thoughtfulness.  That is some real power, especially in a world of fakeness and financial frailty.

Next Week I’m going to share with you what happened when this old guy that was the pastor of the Church asked me to lead his youth group.  Rock and Roll guy, leading some teenagers… we did some crazy stuff… it’s called Ouija boards and Sunday School.

Words of wisdom for this week come from Luke Chapter 11:9-13

9 “And so I tell you, keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. 10 For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.

11 “You fathers-if your children ask[e] for a fish, do you give them a snake instead? 12 Or if they ask for an egg, do you give them a scorpion? Of course not! 13 So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him.”

Food for thought

Last week we talked about our belief system and how sometimes we can believe things that just aren’t true, especially when we are influenced by our surroundings.  Are we a product of our environment?  We talked about how we don’t have to be!  I shared about my dog Shannon and how he was smiling at me, not trying to bite my head off.  I put a picture up from my Mom, thanks by the way.  Oh, and I want to say that our perception is an interesting thing.

As I became a teenager I was exposed to something that was just incredible.  MUSIC!

My brother’s cassettes-  Heart- Dog and Butterfly, Baracuda, etc.  Styx, Foreigner, Crosby Steels and Nash, etc.  Then the day came that changed my life.  I heard AC/DC and Black Sabbath!  Iron Maiden really got my attention.

musicilistenedtoo

Influenced greatly by heavy metal bands, Ozzy  Osborne, Ronnie James Dio, Black Sabbath,  Deff Leopard, and so on.  I also liked melodic Rock like Journey, Bryan Adams, REO Speedwagon, Journey and more.

I played my music loud and proud.  In my Ford Pinto Hatchback with wood paneling.  I had a hurkin’ Realistic Cassette stereo with bass booster.

Here is a car that looked a lot like mine, except I had wood paneling.

Here is a car that looked a lot like mine, except I had wood paneling.

Got my first guitar from my uncle, a 12 string acoustic, played house of the rising sun

Then my parents bought me a Heater Guitar and Crate Amplifier.  Oh my goodness.  I learned power chords, and it was all over!

AC/DC

Doobie Brothers

Scorpions

Iron Maiden

Ronnie James Dio

Black Sabbath -Iron Man

ALL THIS TIME I WAS REALLY SEARCHING FOR POWER.

I was pretty insecure as a kid, no reason for it, but I was.  Hated PE, I was geeky, I was in band, drama, that kind of stuff, never liked sports much.  I was picked last for baseball games, and so on.

Heavy metal and music made me feel powerful and I could see myself doing what my favorite star was doing.

MELT DOWN-  My  best  friend told me to take a hike, that I was an egotistical jerk face.

My girlfriend dumped me, and things just got out of hand.
I was searching for significance in a world full of competition and dog eat dog.

Isn’t God just a crutch for weak people?  Is there something bigger, or is this it?

All human beings need:

1.        To be loved

2.       To belong

3.       To be part of something bigger

4.       Fill our spiritual hearts.

We turn to a lot of things when God isn’t the center of what we need.  I sure did, I still do sometimes.

What fills your heart?  What do you run to to be loved, or belong?  Are you part of something bigger?

My journey into faith came when I finally came to an end of myself.  Something happened that forever changed the way I saw things.   I’ll share that in some upcoming podcasts.

I want to play a song for you that a friend of mine wrote. We recorded it as a band called “The Church” It’s called blind to love.

Here are the lyrics

Blind to Love
by Mike Pirianian, With Rick Moyer, Don Stone and Kenny Miller-

He’s lost in a world that’s seems so cold
What will he do?, he’s not that old
Climbing on a bus that leads to nowhere.

Now dreams all he wants is to have success
to have it all he’ll do his best
climbin’ over anyone to get there

Don’t you know he’s blind to love?
(Blind to love)
He never realized how much he is thought of
Life is vain when you’re blind to love
(Blind to love)
this world holds much to gain
but it’s never, never enough when you’re blind to love.

Now pain deep in his heart is all he feels
he’s lost a hold of all that’s real
Tears of bitterness are his prize

Well Christ pierced the darkness of his soul
forgave him with love and made him whole
the price of the cross has opened his eyes

Don’t you know he’s blind to love?
(Blind to love)
He never realized how much he is thought of
Life is vain when you’re blind to love
(Blind to love)
this world holds much to gain
but it’s never, never enough when you’re blind to love.
What’s coming up next week? Hey man, you ruined my record!  It’s going to be a blast, please come back and download the cast.  Share this with a friend!
